I love yearly reading challenges. The unique prompts provide a fun and interesting means of varying my reading, discovering new titles (new-to-me or new-release), and trying books I may not have picked up otherwise. And while the results don't always yield 5-star ratings, the journey is consistently challenging, enjoyable, and rewarding.

This year I’m taking part in three reading challenges, and today’s post focuses on the first that I’ve completed: The Bookstore Podcast 2023 Reading Challenge. I’ve been listening to The Bookstore Podcast for years now, and this is the third year that I’ve participated in the associated reading challenge. I always enjoy the variety of prompts and books selected by the hosts, Becca and Corinne, as well as their thoughtful, honest, and in-depth conversations.

Above are the prompts for The Bookstore Podcast’s 2023 Reading Challenge, and below are my selections for each (and yes, I totally went off the rails and read the books in any order, at any time felt up to it; one of the many things I love about this challenge is its flexibility, which adds to the fun!).

The Bookstore Podcast 2023 Reading Challenge:

Of the books listed above, my favorites were To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Weyward by Emilia Hart, When the Reckoning Comes by LaTanya McQueen, and Wordslut by Amanda Montell (in this case the audiobook version, narrated by the author, which was a stellar listen).

Are you participating in any reading challenges this year? If so, have you discovered any new favorite books?
