Two Mini Horror Reviews:

“. . . what’s more occult than a book, any book, in which the author has successfully transferred their spirit to the page?”

📚

Watching Evil Dead: Unearthing the Radiant Artist Within by Josh Malerman, a phenomenal, passion-infused nonfiction work that explores the unique life of an artist. Funny, wise, reflective, propulsive, philosophical, inspirational, and utterly addictive — captivating and fulfilling from beginning to end and a must-read for artists of all stripes (especially writers).

Thank you to Chandra (@wherethereadergrows) and Del Rey Books/Penguin Random House for my copy, won via IG giveaway.

📚

One Bad Night and Other Stories edited by Isabel Armiento, an Aardvark Book Club-exclusive horror anthology composed of eight short stories penned by authors whose novels were previously chosen as monthly selections. A wonderful surprise and a fantastic read (not to mention beautiful — oh, that cover art!).

Favorites:

  • “Lady Jawbone” by Kylie Lee Baker: Tense, mysterious, atmospheric, horrific, and captivating
  • “A Necromancer’s Guide to Reconnecting with an Ex” by Rachel Harrison: Ghostly, unsettling, veil-blurring, reflective, and haunting
  • “Red Tide” by CJ Leede: Gross, creepy, transformative, dark, and gruesome
