“The movies had it wrong. Not all horror happens in the dark.”

📚

Curse Corvus opens as best friends Lindsay and Val embark on a hike at Rosy Mound Natural Area near Lake Michigan. Hoping to destress, Lindsay dismisses the first dead bird she sees, but while one may not be a cause for concern, two seem odd, and the dozens the duo discover shortly after are downright disturbing. Even more so is the scene they come upon as they exit: a wedding dress hung atop a trail marker post, fluttering eerily in the breeze, a mysterious bundle positioned beneath. Neither can resist taking a peek, and when Val begins acting strangely afterward, doggedly pursuing happiness at any cost, Lindsay must figure out why and how — or if — she can save her.

This horror novella is an immersive, page-turning freefall that keeps the reader riveted as it spins an ominous tale of two women struggling to find contentment amid fraught family histories, personal traumas, grief, toxic relationships, work stresses, and financial difficulties. Fully fleshed and entirely relatable, these characters pop off the page, as do the bizarre and eerie incidences surrounding them. These sinister happenings multiply, intensify, and connect, ratcheting up the tension until the shocking and memorable conclusion. Add to that some chilling black-and-white illustrations and an incredible amount of storyline packed into just 166 pages, and you have a grisly, creepy, fun, and unforgettable story that readers will binge in a single sitting.

Thank you to Alex Ebenstein and BookSirens for providing an ARC of this spectacular April release.
